Swedish Texas - Is Swedish Massage Right for you?

Swedish massage is one of the most basic techniques that most massage therapists will use during a treatment. If you have never received a massage or don't often receive massages, then Swedish massage is the best modality for you. This form of massage is great to reduce stress, increase flexibility, improve the immune system, help treat soft tissue strains and injury. The therapist will work your whole body, working with the soft tissues and muscles to restore health and balance. The technique involves the use of long gliding strokes, kneading, tapping, friction and vibration. Swedish massage helps rehabilitate muscles after an injury with the therapist working on specific areas of the body and working with specific muscle groups to “work out the kinks”. If you are experiencing stress or simply want to relax then this massage modality is for you. It is said that an hour of massage is equivalent to 8 hours of sound sleep.

Credentials for a Texas Swedish Massage Therapist

When referring to the basic modality of Massage Therapy it is also commonly referred as Swedish Massage. Massage Therapists need to be Licensed by their corresponding State in order to legally practice Massage Therapy. Massage therapy credentials include licensing, board certification, education and training from an accredited school and optionally, becoming a member of a professional Association such as AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association) or ABMP (Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals). Most states regulate the massage therapy profession therefore making it illegal for anyone to work as a massage therapist without proper licensing or certification. Licensed Massage Therapists require education and training with an accredited school, with a minimum of 500 hours of training with some states requiring as much as 1000 hours (e.g. New York). Licensed Massage Therapists have an extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology to be able to treat clients safely and effectively. Most state’s massage therapy license board is under the umbrella of the state’s Department of Health therefore entailing strict and rigorous requirements in order to obtain a massage therapy license. Licenses can always be verified on the corresponding Sate’s Massage Therapy Board websites.
